FDA approves Wegovy HD, a 7.2 mg semaglutide dose

| Approval

The FDA approved a 7.2 mg weekly dose of semaglutide for adults who have tolerated the 2.4 mg dose for at least 4 weeks and for whom more weight reduction is clinically indicated. In the 72-week STEP UP trial of 1,407 adults without diabetes, 89% on 7.2 mg lost at least 5% of their weight versus 38% on placebo.

Skin sensation changes, such as tingling or sensitivity, occurred in 22% on the higher dose versus 6% on 2.4 mg and 0.3% on placebo.

Worth knowing: The current Wegovy label describes the 7.2 mg option. Whether it suits someone is a decision for them and their prescriber.
