Reconstitution calculator

Some medicines come as a dry powder in a vial that is mixed with sterile liquid before use. This tool does the arithmetic: where to draw to on a syringe, or how much liquid gets you a round number. It never suggests an amount.

What this tool is, and is not. It is a math tool. It does not suggest an amount, and every number box starts empty on purpose. The vial and liquid shortcuts are only common container sizes to save typing, not advice. Prefilled pens and FDA-approved products such as Wegovy, Zepbound and Foundayo come with their own instructions and do not need this. Compounded and approved products are different things, and a vial label or a prescriber's instructions always come first.

Terms used here

Reconstitute
Mix a dry powder with sterile liquid so it can be measured as a liquid.
Concentration
How much medicine is in each milliliter of liquid, for example 5 mg/mL.
mg and mcg
A milligram (mg) is 1,000 micrograms (mcg). Mixing them up is the most common unit mistake, so the tool shows both.
IU
International unit. A measure of biological activity, not weight, so the conversion to milligrams is different for every medicine. HCG vials are labelled in IU. For HGH only, the standard is 1 mg = 3 IU, and the tool uses it. It does not convert IU to mg for anything else.
mL
Milliliter, a unit of liquid volume. One mL is one cubic centimeter (cc).
Units
On a U-100 insulin syringe, 100 units is 1 mL, so 10 units is 0.1 mL. A 0.3 mL syringe holds 30 units, a 0.5 mL syringe holds 50 units, and a 1 mL syringe holds 100 units. Units here are marks on the syringe, not a measure of the medicine.
