Viking says VK2735 phase 3 trials finish in 2027 and plans less frequent dosing in a 52-week extension

| Development update

Viking Therapeutics gave a company update on October 28, 2026 about VK2735, an investigational GIP and GLP-1 medicine. It said its two 78-week phase 3 injection trials, VANQUISH-1 and VANQUISH-2, are on track to finish in 2027. VANQUISH-1 enrolled about 4,500 adults and VANQUISH-2 about 1,000. No phase 3 results were reported.

Viking said extension studies will start in the first quarter of 2027 and let people continue treatment for up to another 52 weeks. The VANQUISH-1 extension will include some less frequent schedules, including every other week and monthly, and Viking expects extension results in 2028. It also said its two phase 3 tablet trials, SUNRISE-1 and SUNRISE-2, are under way. The U.S. trial registry still lists them as not yet recruiting.

Worth knowing: This is a company update about trial plans, not results. It does not show how well VK2735 works over 78 weeks, or whether less frequent dosing keeps weight loss in place. Those answers depend on results Viking expects in 2027 and 2028. VK2735 is not approved anywhere.
