Petrelintide phase 2 results published: about 8% to 10% weight loss at 28 weeks

| Trial results

A phase 2 trial of petrelintide, an investigational once-weekly amylin medicine, was published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology. In 485 adults without diabetes, average weight change at 28 weeks was between -7.9% and -9.8% across five doses, compared with -1.7% on placebo. Weight kept falling to week 42, by up to 10.7%.

Nausea was the most common side effect, at 20% versus 6% on placebo. The trial was funded by Zealand Pharma.

Worth knowing: It is a mid-stage trial with a short follow-up. Petrelintide is not approved anywhere, and larger phase 3 trials are needed.
