Orforglipron phase 3 trial in Japanese adults with obesity: up to 8.7% average weight loss at 72 weeks

| Trial results

ATTAIN-J was a double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial at 16 sites in Japan. 238 adults with obesity were randomly assigned to once-daily oral orforglipron 6 mg, 12 mg or 36 mg, or placebo. At week 72, average weight change was -5.9% at 6 mg, -8.7% at 12 mg and -7.9% at 36 mg, versus -0.6% on placebo. A weight loss of at least 5% was reached by 45.6%, 60.8% and 58.8% of people on the three doses, versus 15.2% on placebo.

Side effects were mostly mild to moderate stomach and bowel symptoms. Nausea led to stopping in 1 of 61 people (6 mg), 1 of 57 (12 mg) and 5 of 60 (36 mg), and none on placebo.

Worth knowing: Eli Lilly funded the trial, it covers only Japanese adults, and the Atlas read the PubMed abstract, not the full paper.
